Dr. Kalam was born on the 15th October 1931 in Rameswaram, India. Born to a devout Muslim family, which at the time of his birth was impoverished and lived in a rented house. It was only after he scored high marks in mathematics at school that Kalam’s father was able to afford to build a small house for himself. Kalam was one of five siblings, with a sister and three brothers. Two of these elder brothers are no longer alive – one has passed away while the other has succumbed to old age.
