RBI Announces Withdrawal of 2000 Rupee Note

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has once again made a major decision by announcing the withdrawal of the 2000 rupee note, which was issued after the demonetization in 2016. The RBI has advised banks to stop issuing the 2000 rupee note with immediate effect. According to the RBI, these notes will remain in circulation until September 30. Therefore, those who currently possess the 2000 rupee notes will need to exchange them at banks.

In a press release, the RBI stated that the printing of the 2000 rupee note had been discontinued in 2018-19. The note was introduced in November 2016 after the demonetization drive, which involved the withdrawal of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes. However, the RBI has now decided to withdraw the 2000 rupee note as well.
