The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a computerised test and will be tended by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which will broadcast the test pattern on Tuesday, The operation window for the examination will open in the first week of April.
According to Kumar, admission to undergraduate programmes in these universities would now be completely dependent on the CUET score, with Class 12 Board results having no bearing. At best, he argued, colleges can utilise the results of the Board exam as a test eligibility requirement.
This practically indicates that a student's result on the Class 12 Board test will no longer be considered when applying to Central universities. To put it another way, Delhi University's sky-high cut-off marks are now history. Seven DU colleges have requested 100% marks in the first list to admit candidates to a total of ten programmes this year.
CUET will now encompass Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Indira Gandhi National Open University in the national capital, as well as Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University in Uttar Pradesh.
When questioned if Central universities that reserve seats for minorities, such as AMU and Jamia, will be required to use CUET, Kumar explained that the test is mandatory for all 45 UGC-funded Central universities. He went on to say that while CUET will not effect reserved seat quotas at such institutions, they will be required to admit all students through the single test.
"The only difference is that these kids will have to go through CUET as well, just as students who will be admitted on a regular basis."
